What's the Best Medium for Family Wall Art? | Calgary Family Photographer

Updated: May 8, 2022

Metal prints, framed prints, or gallery wraps, what to choose....

Each home has its ow unique style, and while you want your wall art to pop! it should also fit right in with its surroundings, not stick out like a sore thumb! But beyond the aesthetic value that each of these options have to offer, there are other factors that should be considered. Where in your home the wall art will be displayed will also suggest what type of durability and easiness to clean is needed.

Choosing between these three can be a difficult task, so I'm here to present to you the pros of each wall art medium I have available for my clients.

Gallery Wraps

AKA a canvas!

These have a beautiful, soft look to them since the photo is printed on fabric and then stretched over a wooden frame. The wooden frame adds depth to the wall art, since the image wraps around the sides. The wood frame is 1.5" thick, so your image will sit this far off the wall.

Pros:

  • they are handcrafted

  • they're lightweight

  • they can fit with any aesthetic style, making them great for any home!

  • they are specially finished with a coat that protects from scuffs, scratches, cracking, and UV light

  • their finishing coat makes them easy to dust with a soft cloth

  • the depth of frame provides a 3D effect from your wall

Overall, these are a great choice for anyone!!

Framed Prints

The best part about framed prints is how versatile they are! The frames come in a wide variety of options in terms of style and colour. Because of this, it can also be designed to match your home! Whether your style is modern, to farmhouse, to anything in-between, we can make sure it's exactly what you're looking for:)

Pros:

  • Super easy to clean

  • Matches any look

  • they're lightweight

  • they frames are handcrafted

  • large variety of styles such as simple, metallic, distressed, and many more

  • can be paired with a mat for a different look

  • between frame styles and mat styles, there are endless possibilities

These are a great choice if you like the way frames help an image to pop!

Metal Prints

Honestly, I have always loved the glossy look you get with metal prints!! They add just a hint of metallic sparkle that makes any image glow!

When clients are indecisive about which kind of wall art they want, this is usually the first one I'll recommend. They have a clean, modern look to them, and yet will remain timeless!

Pros:

  • These are very durable!

  • Can be displayed outdoors or in direct sun and it won't fade

  • Very easy to clean

  • They show off vibrancy beyond any other medium

  • Made on lightweight aluminum

  • Sharp, contemporary look

I love my metal prints, and I know you will too!

In reality, I cannot claim one of these to be ultimately superior to the others. They are each beautiful in their own right, and each have their own place as wall art pieces. The style you pick is ultimately determined by where you want your images, and how you want them to look once they're there. If you're still unsure, I can create mock-ups to show you what each style may look like with the images you've chosen!! Or, maybe my article on Why You Should Have a Gallery Wall will convince you to choose "All of the Above" and display them all together!!

If you have any questions, please leave them for me in the comments below and I will get back to you as soon as I can!
